Our client, one of the UK’s most reliable and professional same day courier services based in Manchester, currently have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and driven Operations Manager to join their dedicated team. As Operations Manager, you will oversee the sales and customer service teams. You will play a key role in driving continued growth of the depot through regular customer analysis, monitoring daily productivity and activity to highlight areas for improvement, whilst monitoring the quality of service delivery. You will have experience working in a similar role with experience managing teams preferably within the Logistics & Supply Chain industry.

Role:


As Operations Manager, you will report directly to the Regional Operations Manager. You will oversee the sales and customer service teams, driving continued growth of the depot through regular customer analysis and monitoring daily productivity and activity to highlight areas for improvement whilst monitoring the quality of service delivery.


Responsibilities:


  • Management of customer service teams
  • Ensuring the team is dealing with all enquiries promptly and nothing is missed
  • Ensuring all quotes are sent and followed up, being ‘tagged’ accordingly
  • Monitoring of enquiry response time
  • Handling of customer or consignment escalations
  • Monitor daily productivity of sales team, reporting back to sales manager if you have any concerns
  • Monitor sales team quote process when requesting prices through operations
  • Oversee sales team conduct within office, dealing with or reporting any concerns to sales manager
  • Monitor sales team process for setting new customers up and creating new bookings
  • Partake in weekly sales 1-2-1 meetings and weekly 1-2-1’s with team members
  • Completion of daily consignment checks to ensure compliance with company standards, actioning non-conformances where applicable
  • Drive continued growth of the depot through regular customer analysis, monitoring rates, volumes, and activity to highlight areas for improvement
  • Carry out Customer Visits to discuss any issues or business opportunities
  • Ensuring adequate staffing for operation, at all times, during operating hours
  • Reporting KPI’s to Regional Operations Manager on a weekly basis
  • Keeping MyHRToolkit up to date, recording absences, return to works and any other HR occurrences
  • Encouraging decision making and building the culture of ownership within the team
  • Identifying potential within the team and developing capability of each team member
  • Building the company brand (becoming a brand ambassador) by spreading the good word outside of the company
  • Provision of on call/out of hours cover on a rotational basis
  • Support colleagues who may require assistance with on call issues
  • Quarterly performance appraisals with team members
  • Ensuring regular client contact is maintained and all customers are kept in regular contact
  • Management of operational workload, identifying areas to increase efficiency
  • Ongoing training of team members
  • ISO system management
  • Daily team huddles, summarising previous days performance in relation to targets set
  • Setting and monitoring of KPI’s for team members
  • Ensuring all consignments are profitable, actioning non-conformances where applicable


Skills and Experience:


  • Experience in the management and co-ordination of projects, developing and delivering on work plans
  • Experience of critiquing and developing organisational policies, procedures and performance management processes
  • Experience of leading, motivating and inspiring a team and related management and support activities
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to manage meetings and deliver presentations
  • Ability to be proactive and to problem solve, including seeking creative or imaginative solutions
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and ‘can do’ attitude to provide positive leadership
  • Willingness to contribute positively to a dynamic team
  • Self-motivated and self-disciplined, able to prioritise own workload and that of the wider team and deliver to deadlines 
  • Ability to work under pressure and cope effectively and/or support others with difficult situations
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work across a number of tasks and work areas
